"If it were not for my studies of the French Barbizon and early English landscape painters of the 19th century, I would never have conceived a painting like this. I have studied many early sketches and photographs of this time and place, and it seems to pull at my heartstrings. I can close my mind and visualize this scene as if I were there 150 years ago. In fact, that was how I painted this picture - with a vision of a beautiful watermill pond."
