Charlie Kirk’s life was taken barely 10 miles from where I was painting in my studio in Utah. I was working when I got the news, and my heart sank.
I wanted to paint a memorial portrait that conveyed something of how I feel about Charlie and the impact he had on America. He was peaceful and respectful to all, but he had the convictions of a lion. Not only was he a great advocate for American values and patriotism, but somehow, at the same time, he preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ—a combination sure to anger leftist college students.
I chose a reflective pose for Charlie. The light entering through the window symbolizes the light of heaven breaking into a cloudy room, much like the illumination he brought to the minds of so many Americans searching for clarity and truth.
Rest in peace, Charlie Kirk. I’m sure the Lord is using you for something good up there.
