"The Court of the Patriarchs in Zion National Park consists of three towers of Navajo Sandstone called Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. These sheer cliffs on the west side of Zion Canyon illustrate the Navajo Sandstones characteristics of uniformity and strength. Composed almost entirely of pure quartz sand, the Navajo Sandstone is weak enough to erode evenly, yet strong enough to maintain its integrity in the form of near vertical cliffs. The Patriarchs stand silent and firm in the brilliant southern Utah sky as the Virgin River continues its constant, canyon-forming flow along the valley floor."
