What was it like to be there as Mormon abridged the records of over a thousand years of history? From the Hill Shem, by commandment, Mormon carefully constructed the gold plates which would contain the sacred records of his people. Artist Jon McNaughton has recreated the authenticity of such a place as he reconstructed the scene of an ancient American prophet.

"I wanted the viewer to have a sense of what it would be like had they witnessed such a place. It is a room, filled with ancient records illuminated by candlelight. Mormon, a great general of the Nephites, is surrounded by sacred relics, as well as the swords and armor of the great ones."

Within the painting are many sacred relics: The Golden Plates, Sword of Laban, Title of Liberty, Liahona, Urim and Thummim, and countless records of the holy prophets of the Americas. If you look closely you can see the sacred "mystic symbol" of Christ written on different objects in the painting. And beneath the table is the young boy Moroni playing at his father's feet.

You can hear the voice of Mormon calling from the dust: "And now I Mormon make a record of the things I have both seen and heard, and call it the Book of Mormon." (Mormon 1:1)

For those who love the Book of Mormon, this timeless artwork will bring years of joy and conversation.
